
Mike Rainey of Holly Pond, was sworn in as Sheriff of Cullman County on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Cullman County Courthouse. He will officially take office on Tuesday, January 18, 2011.
Sheriff Rainey was sworn in by Cullman County native Judge Terri Willingham Thomas of the Alabama Court of Civil appeals. Attending the ceremony where numerous friends and family members of Mr. Rainey's as well as community members and Sheriff's Office employees.
Sheriff Rainey told the crowd that he was ready to take office and will do so prepared and focused. "As Sheriff my focus will be on the men and women who unselfishly put on the uniform to protect our County, and their families who anxiously await their return home at the end of each sift," said Rainey. "As Sheriff I will focus on the citizens of this county who entrusted me with this office, and I commit to do all I can to protect them, their property and their families. And, you have my word that I will focus on protecting the Children of Cullman County and educating them on the dangers of illegal drugs and crime, as their future is the future of us all."
Rainey also promised to bring change to the office, particularly in the areas of drug eradication, communication with the public and patrol visibility. "For the next four years, the Cullman County Sheriff’s office will be dedicated to law enforcement all the time, and for all of the people of Cullman County," Rainey told the group. "I am not naive enough to think that being Sheriff will be easy and that things will change overnight, but I am bold enough to commit to you today, to do all I can to serve Cullman County and her people to the best of my ability."
Sheriff Rainey will officialy take office at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2011
