CULLMAN NARCOTICS ENFORCEMENT TEAM

(CNET)

  The Cullman Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET) was very successful in CY 2008. CNET is a county/city task force made up of deputies and city police officers. CNET initiated 209 cases and arrested 193 narcotics violators in 2008. An increasing trend in the operation of Methamphetamine labs by local citizens resulted in the seizure of 69 labs during the year. Because of the increase of Methamphetamine labs there was a decrease in the amount of Methamphetamine being transported into Cullman County from other states and Mexico. CNET also seized 119 firearms and 63 pounds of explosives during 2008. A close relationship with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Drug Enforcement Administration resulted in approximately 12 cases being indicted by the federal grand jury and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. CNET conducted 96 Drug Awareness classes in the community and Cullman County Schools.   Matthew Gentry, Cullman County Sheriff’s Office was appointed Director of CNET in January, 2008.
